Hey guys.... I know this is a reaaaallly old topic, but it never ceases to interest me, especially now that I have the money to actually purchase one.
Okay, I'm gonna go straight into it....
Best prices for NEW cameras:
DVX100b : $2200
XL2 : $3000
So there is a significant difference in price.
Secondly, the overall look.
XL2 is a sharper image, but in the end, still looks like video.
DVX is not a sharp, but wayyy more filmic.
Besides the price and look, the XL2 shoots native 16:9 WITHOUT an adapter, rather than the DVX which needs an adapter....
BUT.... Mike Krumlauf, a young filmmaker from Illinois, decided to put a DVX adapter on an XL2... a 16:9 adapter on a 16:9 camera? Better Quality, and Resolution, and NATIVE 2.35:1 RATIO!!!

WOW! Just WOW!
Anyways, I'm starting to lean towards the XL2, but then again the DVX is cheaper, and more filmic, but the XL2 has better quality, but the DVX produces cooler images, but the XL2 produces sharper images.... BUT, BUT, BUT!!! AHHHH!!!
I just can't figure it out!! :crybaby:
Based on footage I've seen from Mike Krumlauf, and other talented XL2 users, I'm beginning to lean more towards the XL2....
** So, what was the point of this thread??
Here's my challenge to you.... Find (or film) some DVX footage that will totally make me want a DVX over an XL2...
Now I want to see some awesome filmic videos, and if it's an .mov or .wma it's better, because how the heck can I compare footage quality/look on a crappily compressed YouTube video???!!! HEHE...
So please, someone pursuade me to buy a DVX, because I think it definitely has the potential to be better than an XL2, but I just haven't seen it yet....
Thanks,
Colin
** EDIT: HOLY JUNK!!! THIS IS A HUGGGEEE THREAD!!! Sorry!!
