From my experiance, the DVX shoots better looking SD footage.

What information or footage do you have to support this. Why would the dvx shoot better sd footage then the hvx200 it doesnt make any sense. Explain

Remember that the HVX will be a stop or so slower then the DVX.

That's why i ask this question.
Sometimes i doubt about to buy the DVX or HVX and to buy a HVX would be two camera's in one i thought.
Only the price would be the difference when i buy the HVX it will without the p2 cads
until time is right enough reduce the prices.
Until then I will stay shot in SD and will this be the same quality as the DVX because I like the performance of DVX .footage

Essentially you will not notice any real world difference. I do multi-cam shoots with one DVX and one HVX all the time and they cut together really nicely, so I would say don't sweat it.

I have found the hvx superior for dv work. Better colour, sharper cleaner pictures, just generally looks better. I have no tech reason for this, but it has been commented on by other people I work with. Maybe the newer better chips, better lense or just generally newer beefier chip/dsp combo? who knows...

It just makes sense that a camera with chips designed for HD will output better video than one with SD chips, even though the output is mini dv.
The difference will be subtle but is there.

The HVX will do better 16:9 by far, and an overall sharper image.

The DVX will be a stop faster in progressive mode; in interlaced it's two stops faster.

In DVCPRO50 the HVX would slay; in DV 4:3 they can be set to deliver very comparable images.

If shooting interlaced 60i, the DVX produces much better looking images in 60i than the HVX does.

Can I add my Pal HVXs are *much* better in SD than the DVX. I did direct AB comparisons with the same shot. I wouldn't even say it was subtle personally having used both cameras on several A/B jobs.

It needs to be viewed on a decent monitor in component though.

There does seem to be a definite difference in the PALhvx's v NTSC performance from people's comments especially in i modes.

PALhvx's performance vs NTSC better or what? How would you define the difference?

The Pal HVX is a higher res in HD as there are less frames to contend with storing on the P2 cards at the same 100mBits per second data rate.

As the frames are less in PAL [25 Vs 30] we get about 160 more pixels in the horizontal resolution of 1080P per frame.

50Hz 1080P is stored as 1440x1080 pixels whilst 60 Hz is stored as 1280x1080. Both on playback are uprezzed to 1920x1080.

Thanks

As well as the stats that major has reported - NTSC owners have complained of stairstepping in i modes. I can categorically say there is no such thing on the PAL model.
