Ok. I'll be going to Antartica this winter (which is spring there)...

I need every once of information when it comes to the DVX and cold climate.

I have the DVX100A

Who has filmed in Antartica? Who has filmed in any place cold period? What's the best way to care for the DVX in a cold enviroment? Condensation and the DVX, how to prevent it? The crew will be only me - should I even bother taking a second camera? What about framerate? I love 24p - any reasons why 24p WOULDN'T be a good choice there?

What problems did you encounter? I need to know EVERYTHING.

I am grateful for any personal experience you can impart to me. The more specific the better! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

Well I find myself filming in the middle of Michigans winters. I know you can buy a kinda camera wrap for it. That would help it stay warm. But some silicia packets like you find when you get shoes. Toss those in your camera bag. Those absorb all moistness. Let the camera adapt to the cold air( like open you camera bag and let it sit for a couple mins). I never had a problem using 24p in the cold. My batterys only lasted half as long as they would in regular temp's so make sure you have a bunch of extra batterys.

Best of luck. Hoped that helped somewhat.

Matt, thank you so much! I didn't think of silicia packets, and had forgotten about how the battery would hold up. So I definitely need to pick up extras.

Have you used a camera wrap? Whats the coldest you've been out shooting?

If you really need to get some extra life out of your batterys, just put them under your coat and next to your skin. Might be a little cold but you can get a bit of more time out of them.

Wow. That looks really....cool.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Thanks for finding that, I went on B&H before and couldn't locate anything close to that.

Any other suggestions are welcome!
