View Full Version : Why can't I intitial the scene files?
I started having a problem recently with the HVX that i can't initial the scene files. I try to and it says "Initial Completed"
(then btw the display zone goes back to 90% from 4:3 and the recording setup goes to 720 60p from 720 24pn)
The next message is "Please Power off!"
I power off, turn it back on and nothing has changed with the scene files and my settings as i mentioned above get changed.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Am I overlooking something easy and obvious?
Thanks,
Philip

If you don't save the scene file are initializing it back to the defaults, the settings are not saved.
If you don't save the scene file are initializing it back to the defaults, the settings are not saved.
What does that mean? I had saved scenefiles, tried to initial them to get back to the defaults and i can't get back to them! It used to work!

What I'm saying is that after you use the INITIAL command, you have reset the currently selected scene file as determined by the dial back to its factory defaults.
However, like any scene file changes that are not saved to the camera's non-volatile memory, you lose the settings if you turn off the camera. So if you want the settings to still be there after you turn off the camera, make sure you SAVE the scene file after you INITIAL it. If you don't do that, the next time you turn the camera on you will see the last scene file settings that you actually saved.
The strange thing is that I can't save the file because I get this message to power off the camera and no time to save. Also it never used to be a problem, once I initialed the file it would stay like that (as default setting) even when I shut off the camera and turned it back on. Now, I can't even get back to the default setting at all!
Thanks,
Philip

THoff and Barry Green just assisted me with a similar problem.
See if this fixes your issue:
Set the SCENE file wheel on the back of the camera to the F# you want to set back to initial.
In the SCENE FILE menu now first do an INIT, and then a SAVE. Do that for each of the F# on the SCENE FILE wheel you wish to set back to initial. (6 times for all)
I hope that fixes your problem.

THoff,
You should probably do a sticky on the fix for this one.

I'm not a moderator and can't create sticky posts.
Anyway, I'm wondering if there isn't something else going on. Resetting a scene file to the factory defaults should not result in a message to power off the camera. That's not normal, and I've never heard of it before.
I would try resetting the entire camera by sticking the tip of a paper clip into the RESET switch next to the color bar button on the left side of the camera.

It will give a power off request if you go to OTHER FUNCTIONS/USER FILE/INITIAL
been there...done that

Ah, that makes sense, the original poster was trying to reset the scene file through the wrong menu option. The user file is different from the scene file -- that's why the scene files never changed.
Thank you Indywannabe and THoff!
Yes, I got mixed up in the menus!
Thank you! I really was a bit worried for a while!
