Would it not it be simpler just to attach an HD monitor at this point rather than monkey around with a tool that already has only limited application?

Depending on what you need this for, you may be able to just use something like the Varizoom focus/iris controller which lets you switcg autofocus on and off... unfortunately, the focus conroller is positional, so when cutting off the autofocus it will jump to the manual position the knob is set for. But if you want a quick reading, fter which you can match it with manual, that'll do it!
