I heard a rumor that the Canon lenses for the HPX500 will be delayed. Is this true?
I talked with the sales dept. at AbelCineTech and they said the Canon CAC lens is delayed til the end of June. Canon has the physical lenses done but need to get the CAC function completed.

CAC is a function of the camera, perhaps what is meant by Canon is that the intial handshake software has to be installed. The CAC algorithm is in the camera and not in the lens at all.
Best,
jan
I have a camera sitting at Able's waiting for a lens - frustrating... Jan, do you know the reason for the hold-up? It would seem that if there were Canon CAC lenses on the Ididerod that they should have the tech down...

It is nothing more than a simple delay. It is not about R & D, it is only a loading of software. We were using a Demo lens at the Iditarod, I have asked for clarification on the lens delivery.
More later,
Jan
Thanx Jan... I have a film starting this month and I am actually starting it on HDV because I don'thave a camera - the cutting edge can be very sharp...

Can you tell me the goodies of KJ16x7.7B-IRSD HDgc 16x 2/3" ENG High Definition Lens with 2x Extender... Is a good acquisition??
Has anyone even seen a production version of the Canon CAC lens yet? I finally gave up and took delivery of my camera with the Fujinon a month and a half ago because I just couldn't wait - I had to start this film I'm currently shooting..
By-the-way, I'm pretty happy with the Fujinon CAC.. the build quality is very good and the image is fine... It does breath a lot, and the barrel distortion when wide is the most I've seen on any similar focal length lens... but people don't notice that stuff much in documentaries - and I'm shooting - like, NOW (and it is yet to be seen if the Canons are going to be any better)...

I still haven't received mine - we're using a loaner from the company we purchased the camera from.

It's probably old news by now but we just received the KJ16eX7.7 IRSD PS12 with 2x and we're loving it so far. CA is not existent on the horizontal, and light on the vertical.
We were using a loaner Canon lens that was about 3x the cost of our CAC lens and the CA was just awful. Huge difference.
Interestingly our lens was labeled as an IRSE which is the non-CAC version. They had done the CAC retrofit and just not changed the label on the lens. It's an identical lens but they add a potentiometer on to the lens so the lens can feed analogue zoom and focus info to the camera so the camera can compensate for CA. Who knew.

Release should be end of November/December. It is expensive. It is $19,900 SLP.

Great Jan, thanks for the update. Expensive true, but Id say the quality is going to be there to make it worthwhile.
