Hello,

I have a tiffen haze-1 filter for my dvx 100a but was told that it is a piece of s$%3!

I am wondering what the quality difference is between multi-coated or straight up glass. Also if there if there is a difference between HAZE and UV or if they are the same thing.

Here are some filters I am looking at on bhphoto.com (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=NavBar&A=search&Q=&ci=112&atl=Size_72mm&mnp=0.0&mxp=0.0&pn=2)

I am looking at the 72mm Clear Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/391168-REG/Hoya_XD72PROTEC_72mm_Clear_Pro_1.html) for $58 at B&H.

There is a Nikon filter for $69.95 but just glass: 72mm Clear NC Glass Filter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/121297-REG/Nikon_2481_72mm_Clear_NC_Glass.html)

TIFFEN: 72mm Haze-2A Glass Filter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/60735-REG/Tiffen_72HZE2A_72mm_Haze_2A_Glass_Filter.html) for $64

THANK YOU!!

Your topic title asks for "The best", so ... Put the best filters on your camera! You have a great lens on the dvx 100a. I always use B&W filters. They are more expensive, but they are made with optical Schott glass, and the rings are anodized and very nicely machined. The difference between B&W vs Hoya or Tiffen filters on 1/3" sensors is really inconsequential. However, if you use the same filters on other types of cameras that deliver better resolution there is a much more significant difference.

Multi-coated filters will reduce lens flare slightly, when shooting into a bright light source. Multi-coated LENSES will reduce flare dramatically under the same circumstances. You already have a multi-coated lens on your camera.

HAZE is what Tiffen calls their UV filter. It is a UV filter marketed under a different name for those who understand "haze" but are clueless about "UV".

Hi Optiks, Thanks for your reply. You mentioned 1/3" sensors...what is that? And B&W...does that mean black and white...if so, how do you use a black and white filter for color?
Thank you!

1/3" refers to the CCD sensors in your camera - you've got three for r,g, and b in the DVX. B+W is a filter brand, very good filters too I might add. Thats what I've got and that's what I would definitely buy again.

Hi Thank for your reply.

I have couple more questions.

1. What is the difference between MULTI-COATING and MULTI-RESISTANT COATING?

2. On B&H there is a B+W 010 Haze for $46 and a B+W 010 Haze Multi-Resistant Coating for $62. It seemed that an earlier response felt that multi-coating was unnecessary.

3. I found a B+W 010 Haze Coated new F-Pro for $20 on hvstar.net. Is this a reliable site? It is so much cheaper?!
It also says that it has a filter factor of 1.0--and B&H doesn't mention this.
If this is a filter I want on my camera all the time to reduce haze but also to protect my lense, shouldn't I find something with zero filter factor?

Thank you thank you,
Aleigh
