SET-UP - I am doing a comedy sketch TV show for the local public access channel. It will be performed/shot live in front of an audience with pre-taped sketches shown during the performance. The TV show is not broadcast live. I am editing the live performance and pre-taped segments together to broadcast later.

QUESTION - I am considering shooting the live performance in 60i and the pre-taped segments in 24p or 24pa. Can I edit these together in the same timeline? The output will be to DVD. I tried to find previous threads that covered this, but didn't have much luck. I'm sure this topic has been covered, and would appreciate any help finding the threads or just advice/suggestions.

2nd QUESTION - Has anyone ever tried shooting 60i and 24p/pa on the same DV tape? Can you do that without problems when you put it into your editing system? I figure you can't, but thought I would ask anyway.

MY EQUIPMENT - DVX100B, Mac Powerbook 17", and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5

THANKS DVXusers!

Shoot your 24p segments in the normal 24p setting (not advanced) and then combine with your 60i footage on a 60i timeline (since standard 24p is designed to be edited that way, anyway).

You can shoot 24p and 60i on the same tape, it's just a matter of whether or not FCP will like it. Vegas doesn't mind if you do it, but I'd talk to a FCP person about this.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check the FCP forum to see if FCP takes tapes with 24p and 60i.
