I was told by my dealer that they are getting the first units next Thursday, shipping mine on Friday... (I went with the Fuji 2X)

On the other hand I ordered a RED during NAB (early morning the first day), a few weeks later they told me my order was schedule for delivery in January 2008 (no more Serial number), now with the eng. delay, I don't know when will I be getting the RED.
In the mean time, the 500 will serve well.

By the way, I guess the RED delay is good news for the Panny 3000.

An update,

Got a call from my dealer, they already received the first shipment, will ship my camera today.

I'm planning to shoot the shuttle launch in 2 weeks :)
I'll probably be 3 mile away, will see how good is the Fuji 17X at full zoom.

gustavotg, awesome news! I hope we can bribe you to post some footage or stills. And if you have access to a good SD 2/3" lens, I'm especially interested in comparing grabs shot in HD with that lens vs. grabs shot with one of the CAC HD lenses.

I've gone back and forth on this camera, all because the price with any of the packaged lenses, while obviously terrific among comparably performing cameras, is still very hard for me to personally justify given the nature and profitability of my production business at present.

More recently, I've thought about buying a decent used SD 2/3" lens since the vast majority of my paying projects will remain SD for the next couple of years. I would then plan on renting HD primes or cine zooms for those personal projects that I want to shoot in HD and have look as fabulous as possible.

I'm even wondering if there's some like minded people on this forum that might like to split investment in one very high quality HD zoom that could be time-shared on some kind of egalitarian reserve basis. (If you are interested in that kind of arrangement and have any additional ideas to propose, please feel free to PM me or start a new thread.)
