I take it that not many people (other than Barry) have yet had a chance to play with this camera...

But does anyone know how effective the CAC is?

Does it leave any Chromatic Abberation visible?

Good question, I was wondering how a normal HD lens (one that costs around $20 grand +) handles this? Has anyone tested this camera with a non CAC lens.

probably not, as they're not available yet.

I know they are not available, however I do know that a few people have been asked to test the camera that is why I am asking. I would even appreciate a reply from someone at panasonic about this CAC issue and how it will or won't effect higher end HD glass without the CAC feature.

The CAC function only works when there is a lens to have the handshake with, ie an CAC lens. It is very useful in using less expensive glass on the HPX500. If you put a lens on that significatly out costs the camera, you will find that the enhance quality of the lens will shine. This was why we did what we did at NAB. We had a Cinestyle, $30,000 lens on one and a CAC on the other. The $30,000 piece of glass looked better.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Thank you Jan, I did not get a chance to get to Vegas this year and I appreciate your reply to my question.

$20,000 better, Jan ?

Not being a smartass just wondering - I mean for ENG a $30k lens is likely to be overkill, yes ?
I'd think a CAC lens handled by a good op would be fine in an ENG environment - maybe ?

Hi,

Yes for many applications the more money for a higher endlens would be overkill. The CAC lens would be perfect in many applicatiosn. But there is the rental market and you can always rent better lenses for a particular job and be perfectly happy that you didn't buy it yet got to use it.

Hope that helps,

Jan
