So I borrowed a wide angel lens and took some photos of my cast of Oklahoma. I thought they turned out pretty good.

Thanks!
I have a canon 30D and I used the CANON EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. When shooting at 10mm with this lens it can give you very distorted shots when you're right on top of your subject. All the shots were on manual setting with the f/stop at 3.5, shutter speed around 1/100s and ISO around 1250 (fluorescent lights don't give out a lot of light). When I shot these I was literally right on top of the subject, maybe with an inch at most between us.
I shot the photos in RAW and then edited them in Photoshop CS3. I used a B&W adjustment filter on the photos and then colored in the subjects clothing and faces. I find this technique a good way to subtlety separate the subject from the background without having to necessarily blur the background. That's about all there was to it.
