Where can I find CHEAP but GOOD World War II army outfits? I am going to make a short that looks somewhat like Peter Jackson's short Crossing The Line. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey
If you want to do it right it is very expensive. The best bet is to get local reenactors and use them as either extras or rent their stuff. They usually have extra stuff as well to lend you for your main actors. To find a unit in your area go to www.atthefront.com and click on "WWII Links" on the left and than click on "Reenacting Organizations and Units".
Lots of reenactors like doing movie and TV work, but you might have to pay them if they are missing work. If you can base your shoot around some of their events than that might be better. If you have any more questions you can PM me if you want.
If you have loads of cash lying around and want to buy the stuff, there are several online dealers, atthefront.com, whatpriceglory.com, wwiiimpressions.com, and of course ebay.

Check with theatre departments from any local universities that may be around you. Some of them rent their costume stock out, and they may have some stuff... Just an idea.

The least expensive route is to hook up with re-enactors. My old boss did this and all of the guys in it usually have a small surplus of kit. Try the Internet or your local surplus for tracking some local re-enactors down.

I've heard of revolutionary war reenactors, and civil war reenactors too... but never heard of wwII reenactors.

It seems really real when a Bren carrier or Sherman tank comes rolling up next to you and all you're holding is an Enfield.

This is a convenient thread, as I am prepping to shoot a WWII short in S16. I will pass these links on to the director and art department.
