does anyone have any experience using these. My wedding photographer gave me the good news that instead of shooting my wedding with 2 5Ds he is going to use 1 5D and a mayima medium format with a 28mp leaf digital back. I wanted to know things about file types, bitdepth etc. so that i can be prepared we he hands me these files. The leaf website doesn't have that much information about it.

It depends on how they shoot them, (raw, jpeg, etc) I can't speculate what they will give you but I can only imagine the file type will be the same but much larger and better clarity with the medium format.....
I'd give anything to put a digi back on my Hasselblad but I just don't have $10,000 + for a Leaf digi back.....

28 Mpix wedding images sound like an overkill, unless sombody needs 300 dpi prints the size of a (double) door...
In anything smaller than 14x20' there would be no difference between 5D and 28 MPix Leaf.

i'm more stoked about the medium format sensor size. The DOF/focal length/aperture will be awsome. But the biggest I plan on printing is maybe 4 feet by 3 feet and would like to have it at 400dpi - national geographic resolution :) But anyway, its mainly for the formal protraits and if I want to crop anything I will still have the resolution to print. I will have to crop anything I want to be the same aspect ratio as the 5D

Even with Hasselblad 31Mpix is too much, Hasselblad lenses can not handle it. With 39 Mpix back the Schneider and Rodenstock had to make a new series of lenses, even the (suberb) old 4x5 lenses were not sharp enough for that 645 sized sensor.
It is true that thre are DOF differences with 5D and 645 backs, but in real life not all that much: with 645 size backs the fastest lenses are about f2.8, with 5D you can have f1.2 to f2 speed lenses in a range of focal lengths. I almost beliwe it is possible to have less DOF with D5.
If really big prints are the goal, go for a midsize digital back, yes.

that might very well be a good point petrus. I am not firmiliar with the speeds of medium format lenses. I was looking for two full frame photographers The medium format was an added bonus since this specific photographer loves shooting with his mayima. I like this discussion, its not a topic that is normally talked about in the photography forum, highend tech that is.
