Announcement: We are going back to 7 day contests regardless of how many people enter (as evidenced by round 6) Steve and I will continue to offer these contests up for the next several weeks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Round Seven...
The one topic that I freaking hate. I hate flower pictures but let's be honest... people love these. They sell well and photographers have made entire careers out of shooting these.

I'm probably in.
With film! Coincidentally, I shot flowers on film today. Don't know if I'll get them developed in time though.

I'm fairly new to the still photo page, so I don't know what you have done in the past. But I think it might be easier to make the photo contest every two or every three weeks instead of every week. It's gets to be a little too much getting shots in every week. Just my opinion.

I'm in! Just uploaded my pictures.
Good Luck everyone!

Thanks for the opinion but we have done that in tbe past and we have decided that we are going to move ahead weekly.
If shooting in a week doesn't work for you then you don't need to enter that week.

I prefer every week. This is still photography, it shouldn't take you 3 weeks to get one decent shot.

Flowers are great. They really light up good when doused with gasoline and lit on fire. :)

Hah...I helped my friend do a shot like that for his b&w film contest.
We has such a hard time getting it to light (real windy), and when it finally did, it nearly blew our faces off.

This may be a little tougher than I originally thought. There's not much of anything for flowers here yet.

Horse, horse, horse... My friend... dude...
Tough? Well, just turn to www.google.com :)
I did it and found this (http://www.ci.mankato.mn.us/ServiceList.aspx?srvLet=F)
Which then led me to discover this: The City of Mankato has been recognized many times for the beautiful flower gardens and landscaped areas at Sibley Park. The flower garden areas and gazebo have been popular for outdoor weddings and photography sessions.
Now, Sibley Park is located:
Sibley Park
900 Park Lane
Mankato, MN 56001
pwpse@city.mankato.mn.us

...AND...
I found these images of Sibley Park:

Now, these aren't flowers... but you could always just pick up a dozen at Cub Foods

Jeremy - I was just there yesterday (it's one of my regular shooting spots) and there's really nothing there right now. It's pretty early in spring for us. We still had snow here a few weeks ago. I'll get something, though. There are lots of parks in town.

That actually seems like an awesome location...
Ummmm, I wish I had another location for you other than the gardens at Augsburg

Steve and I will continue to offer these contests up for the next several weeks.
Are there only a few contests left?

Ok ... I spent some time getting a picture all prettied up, including file size, etc. This is my first time submitting something to a contest. THEN (Duh!) I thought I'd better read the rules to make sure all was well. oooppsss... Must be shot during contest period. I shot the one I wanted to submit Last June 06. It's at Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, CA. Oh well ...... next time I'm in!
I was going to go for a shot of the apple tree in my back yard in full bloom ... at night from my roof ....... under a full moon. Sheeshhhh.... It's unreal how the weather will not cooperate!

I don't know how things are in Raleigh but today was actually worse than yesterday. I was planning on going to the botanical gardens but it has just been straight up nasty out.
Time to get going with the improv'd ideas.

Thanks for the gold guys, it's much appreciated! I'm glad to see there was a better turnout than last round. Hopefully it picks up even more as it's nice to see others work.
tommyinla: It was lit with a SB800. As far as how I lit this particular one...I should probably keep a log... I'm pretty sure it was fired from below. I did about 50 different shots but judging from the shadows and highlights I'm pretty sure it was from below on this one.
As for the color... I used lightroom to start with the blacks and exposure but the saturation was done using the "LAB-curves adjustment layer" technique in photoshop.
