I was going to try to save up for a DVX to go along with my VX and what i came to relize is....it's gonna take for ever for me to try to save up $2,200 because well, that's a shit load of money to pay for a broke ass bastard like me. So i was thinking for situation it might be better for me to just go ahead and save up for HV20, because the quality that i have seen from it is very impressive.

So here are the pros and cons that i have come up with

Pros with getting a HV20.

- it has 24p and...
-the 24p does an in-camera telecine so it puts your footage onto tape in a 29.97 format, witch means i wont have to fork out another $600 to update to FCP
- it's $1100 new
- and of course the footage looks great.

Cons with getting the HV20

- I heard somebody say that it only shoots 24p on hd mode, so it might be wierd with non-hd footage and hd footage combined

Pros with getting a DVX
-its a dvx
-the quailty is going to be better than hv20
-better manuel controls
-xlr inputs
-it looks more professional, and yeah that matters

Cons with getting the DVX
-its a dvx, witch means its really expensive

So whats the verdict?

I thought the quality was better on the HV20 being HD and all?

I think hes talking about build quality. I'd look at your need for HD and ability to edit it vs. your need for manual controls and a higher end camera. What are you going to use the camera for?

Hey about the HV20 looking less professional, i agree, I have a shoot coming up and I'm kinda freakin out about how my actors and crew are gonna feel when they see me pull this little thing out, people will all be going, "I gotta go to my car and get something." SCREEEEEEECHHHHHHH!!!!
Anyway, i think i have a way of resolving this, by buying the Canon Wide Angle lens WD-H43 then adding the smallest mattebox with rod support I can find and adding it to that, well, it should look a little better a I right? More respectable.
i mean there are film cameras that are super small that people respect so why does this have to be any different?

i went for the HV20 over the DVX. but i'm getting a 35mm adapter and a balance box, so i'm not giving up the focus ring or the XLR inputs.

can't you record 24pHDV then downconvert to SD? I guess that would still give you the 24p look?

Are any of you having a problem with sound? Motor noise?
