My immediate impression was that the footage from the HV20 looks more detailed, with more vibrant colors and richer texture.

I have to say... I got a HV20 last week, and it shoots amazing video, but I hadn't seen a lot of the HC7's material... While they both do look different, they both really do create some awesome video. I can only thank goodness that I had made my choice already, as I'd have been hard pressed to find one better than the other from those clips... 24p and better low-light would have won out in the end, I'm sure, but WOW, in the right hands both could work veritable miracles....
But, after viewing them all several more times, I do have to say that I think the HV20 does look the TEENIEST bit better... I agree about the sharper pic and better color, but seriously, you're really talking miniscule amounts here... Both looked wonderful.
