I'm looking at xl2 available for about 1000.00 more than xl1s used

now I'm a total NuBee here and want to get started with Documentary shorts, educational, and the like with look of film not video.

so my question is how far apart is xl2 from xl1s ???

XL2 is a brand new camera, not just an updated XL1s. You get 24p, image control, true 16:9, XLR inputs, a longer lense, an extra on board ND filter.

The XL2 is a much better camera. The resolution is much sharper 960X480. The 16x9 mode is a true 16x9, unlike the XL1 which reduces the resolution to 720X360. the lens is much better, the focus ring responds better. The viewfinder is bigger and has better resolution making focusing easier. The up side for the XL1 is that the standard lens is lighter and balances a bit better. The XL2 has 24p making the image a lot more film like. IMHO you would be missing out on a lot of great features by buying the XL1s.
Hope this is helpful. Please let me know what you decide
