Hi all i'm hopefully getting the HV20 camera wich will be the 50i and 25p model, will the 25p look just as good as 24p ?? ( still have the film look ? ) and when putting 25p on a timeline can it just be put on any PAL 25 frame time line ? or must it be a specific 25'P' timeline to keep it pregresive ?? becuase i dont think premier pro 2 has a '25P' timeline but it does hav a pal 25 frame rate time line ( 50i i think ) is this right ? someone correct me.... but thanks to all for their advice and i WILL be getting this camera. also my computer ( strictly for video editing is as follows:
AMD 62 X2 dual core 3800
512mb nvidia 5300 GT
2 gig RAM
raid 0 500gig HD ( 2 x 250 )
100gig 10k rpm HD
..is this ok for editing HDV with the hv20??? )
- regards Marty.

Hum, good point. I've never seen a 25P project on premiere. I had to download a "pluggin" for 25F to be able to work with the A1's 25F, but it's not the same.

maybe theres a 25p timeline plugin for premier pro 2 ? or does anyone know of software that supports 25p timeline ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a 50i timeline with fields set to "No fields (progressive)" the same thing as 25p?

I think Norberts right - Premiere doesnt have a 30P preset, just 60i.

Correct, though premier pro 2 doesnt have a 50i with either no fields/prpgressive option, it only has 50i with upper or lower field option. evan in 'custom settings' you cannot make a 50i timeline with no fields/ progressive.... Help... what do i do ??

I just checked in PPRO 1.5 and clicked on one of the DV Pal settings, then went into the custom settings and there is an option for 'No Fields (Progressive Scan)'. I find it hard to believe that this wouldn't also be the case in PPRO 2, but I could be wrong.

i found out how to do it :) ( create a 25p timeline in premier pro 2 )
Open "File/New Project/Custom Sttings/General/Editing Mode - Desktp"
In "Fields" now u can choose "No Fields(Progressive Scan)"
"Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)" <-- though DV 0.9 should work
"Timebase: 25,00"
Export your final project as progressive (export movie/settings/keyframe and rendering/fields: Nofields).
Heres a screen grab :

EDIT: claw made a good point in another one of my posts and stated
"You probably want your Pixel Aspect Ratio rate to be 'D1/DV PAL', and your frame size to be 720x576"
absolutly correct, so keep that in mind PAL people. - marty.

Nice, so it works for DV, but how about 25p HDV? This thread is about the PAL HV20. :)

Yes its about the pal version, i'm an aussie here so i have to deal with PAL
i'd have to check with claw but for editing progressive HDV on the hv20 (1080/25P) we should keep the same setting but change frame size to : 1920x1080, pixel aspect ration to : HD anamorphic 1080 1.067, go to capture and change capture format to : HDV capture and it should be good to edit in HDV progressive from the hv20.
And when capturing and editing HDV 1080/50i i guess i could just use the HDV1080i 25 (sony 50i) preset setting.
sound right claw ?
