View Full Version : The Peretti Brothers Present: SHADOWSTORM

04-19-2007, 04:49 PM

After some tinkering about with a script we're finally ready to go into production with our entry.

It's a bit more ambitious than our last film, so whether we get it finished on time (unlike the HorrorFest) is unknown. Never the less, it will be finished ;)

London 2027. The worlds most notorious black market arms dealers secretly attend a meeting deep within the once mighty Xeon corporations headquarters.
In a bid to discover the reasons behind this gathering, MI6 has called upon it's Bionic-Division to dispatch their latest weapon to infiltrate the meeting.

Confirmed Cast:

Richard Cambridge as Robin

Nigel Winder as Xeon

Bethany Simpson as Kate

Sid Barnhoorn

Here's some storyboard sketches of our first scene. A few have been taken out
as not to give the game away.

Hi guys,

I'm Richard the other Peretti brother!

Just added some storyboards of our first scene. Left a few key shots out so as
not to spoil any surprises. :lipsrseal

Thanks for checking out our post and stay tuned for more.

cool storyboards fellas! Looking forward to the entry :)

04-27-2007, 05:56 AM
Hey guys!

Sorry for the lack of updates. Our first weekend of shooting was fairly disastrous and had major ups and downs. We realised that about fifty percent of what we shot was actually usable.

Right now we're really busy scouting for other locations as well as dealing with vfx and actor schedules. Also Richard (Peretti) had booked a two week holiday way back for next week and will have his work cut out when he gets back.

Either way we're gonna try our best to get it finished for the competition :)

stay tuned for more updates (when things calm down ;)

04-27-2007, 09:06 AM
Zeno - sorry for the tough time there filming, just remember, what doesn't kill you, will make your stronger, cough, cough, gag.

05-02-2007, 03:14 AM
Hey guys! Quick update. Check out page 1 for some movie stills :)

05-02-2007, 03:56 AM
Nice screen grabs! Hope you can get the scheduling thing worked out.

Wow! Loving the cast photos, Storyboards and grabs!!! Nice lighting.

I hope you can get your film done in time. Looks great!

05-02-2007, 07:43 AM
Your film looks great.. damnt i'm never gonna win one of these things :)

05-02-2007, 03:17 PM
Cheers guys! :D

We got lots of other media to show but I'm knee deep in vfx stuff at the moment.

Will definately comp some bts photos and post them in the week.

05-02-2007, 07:14 PM
Grabs are pretty slick. looking forward to seeing it.

05-03-2007, 04:27 AM
Thanks Bosindy. We're planning on shooting an alternative fight scene when Rich gets back from his holiday.
The fightscenes we already shot have some good shots, but we want to try alternative directions for the best outcome.

Our biggest hurdle is that we haven't (and most likely wont) be able to secure any good locations for this scene :( but we will try and make it work with what we get.

05-05-2007, 10:03 AM
I started work on the official poster last night, finishing it off this morning. I've also replaced the teaser poster on the main page.

More updates coming soon :)

05-05-2007, 11:28 PM
Cool poster Ed,

Well done for holding the fort while I'm away.

Really frustrating being away at the moment but I know we can get this sucker made!!!

05-06-2007, 03:42 AM
Indeed. No social life for me this whole month!

I thought I'd post these fight scene concept boards I made up the night before the fight shoot a few weeks ago. Some of the moves were used in the final shoot, but some were improvised as our location changed to a much tighter space.
The whole photo thing looks a bit goofey, but my drawing skills just couldn't cut it at the time ;)

05-06-2007, 08:11 AM
I like the photo boards, I did that on mine too.

05-06-2007, 05:03 PM
yeah photo boards are alot more accurate than drawings (imo) and they're easy to whip up when you need something mega fast, with minimal effort! :D

Been working on a quick shot of a cg city for the last 3 hours, though I think I'm starting to go cross-eyed! an indication of calling it a night I think :-KnockedOut(D

05-07-2007, 04:21 AM
Finaly! Some BTS stills from our first day of filming (approximately 3 weeks ago) :)

Wow. Very impressive.

05-08-2007, 08:16 AM
I'm really looking forward to this. I loved Nightshifters. Your stills looks brilliant. I'm glad there are other UK PAL users entering stuff.

Good luck.

Zenon, you've got some GREAT looking cast in here, and VERY in-depth BTS, storyboards, etc. Excellent grabs as well.

Wow, this'll be one to watch for!

05-10-2007, 09:06 AM
Thanks for the encouraging words guys :) good to know people are checking out the thread.
I'll be posting more media soon, maybe some 3d renders of what I'm working on at the moment (when it eventually gets finished :D)

05-10-2007, 09:48 AM
Nightshifters was great so I realy want to see this one. The BTS look great.

05-10-2007, 09:50 AM
I like the bts stills, nice job.

Matt Harris
05-11-2007, 05:48 PM
the screen grabs look great! so when you said only 50% of the footage was usable, why is that? What happened?

Mark T. Aro
05-11-2007, 06:11 PM
Screengrabs look good...

Nightshifters.... just saw it... lots of FUN!

There were a couple shots I REALLLLLLLLY enjoyed! The shot with the guys sliding in with the bowler caps on... very CREEPY and COOL... it kind of felt a little A CLOCKWORK ORANGE... just enough to be :Drogar-Evil(DBG):COOL!

05-14-2007, 05:26 AM
Hey all, thanks for checkin out Nightshifters, glad you liked it

Mark: that shot is one of my favourites too, Rich did that in after effects. Though he had to manually rota each guy because we had guys standing behind each other. so was a bit tricky but worth it for the end result.

Defcon: Alot of the footage we shot against green. but we realised the dvx isn't the best camera to use for keying out because of it's low resolution so we've had to re-think alot of the shots.
It's crazy but we've still alot to shoot for this week. hopefully we're gonna be alot more organised this time :embarasse

Also I've decided to scrap the 3d city I made for the intro shots because it was taking too much time to finish. So I've gone with a digital matt painting which I'll show a sneak peak of when I get home.

All in all alot of time has been wasted because the preperation wasn't there. But the preasure kinda makes it more fun, in a sick, twisted sort of way :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

The effects were fantastic! Great acting and music well, very professional looking!

Good to know that I don't have a chance in hell of winning this thing. :)

This is a great contest to learn and grow with though.

05-14-2007, 08:06 AM
Seriously looking forward to this entry. I have Nightshifters on my Archos portable and it's on the regular rotation of short shorts. :)

05-14-2007, 08:09 AM
This looks like one SICK movie!

05-14-2007, 09:11 AM
I just read through this thread and those actors (and storyboards) look amazing. A very nice look to the whole thing.

Looking forward to this one. A lot.

(ps - given that your actors are British, will you be including subtitles for the dialogue?:Drogar-Love(DBG): )

If it's the same as the one in Florida, then yeah, it's a WICKED ride! Best ride I've ever been on... EVER.

05-16-2007, 12:11 AM
Nightshifters rocked my face off.

I think I am looking forward to and afraid of this one in equal measure.

05-16-2007, 07:14 AM
ok just saw night shifters.... damn that was sweet... Now I am pumped for shadowstorm

05-23-2007, 02:45 PM
Apologies for the severe lack of updates.

We wrapped filming on sunday (approx 85% of the film!) and are now beginning to process it. So we are aiming to edit, create the 3d and 2d effects and sound engineering in a week!! :zombie_smiley: Plus I'm at work most the time :crybaby:

However we're gonna try to plough through what should be a months work in a week and see how things go.

I'll try to post some more material soon, but for now I must become one with the computer!

05-23-2007, 05:12 PM
Some 3d elements I worked on tonight. but what can they be?

05-23-2007, 05:29 PM
Cool. Those looke like they would zap you!

05-23-2007, 06:25 PM
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nightshifters ROCKED HARD! I have a feeling this will Rock as well.........

05-24-2007, 05:07 AM
cheers :)

Keystoned: very close guess ;) They're a bit bigger but pretty much do the same thing.

More 3d implimentations. I got a couple of friends from work to help me out with some vfx. My mate James did this one. but what can it be?

hmmmmmmm *strokes chin*

Ben Sliker
05-27-2007, 01:34 PM
but what can it be?

Ok, I'll do it, I'll continue the trend.

I was thinking more:

Star Fox!!!

05-31-2007, 05:24 AM
Just to keep people updated. Shadowstorm is about 70% complete. apart form a few models I litteraly started all the cg this week, working at night with zilcho sleep. I'm almost done with just a few more scenes to go and Richard is hard at work with the 2d vfx and compositing.
We still have the edit to finalize as well as sound design and finding music (our composer needed a final cut to score to and we didn't/haven't got one) so there are many obsticals in our path, but we're just gonna try to get through it (ie. no sleep tonight)

The biggest problem is that we're both at work most of the time and unable to take time off. but heck! where there's time there's hope, right? ;)

hope you're all having better luck with your entrys :)

06-03-2007, 02:23 PM
hello peeps,

well as you guys have allready figured, Shadowstorm never made it to the upload.

However we were so close to submission. So now we plan to spruce it up a bit more, extending the length a little and make the eye candy look a bit more sweeter :)

So keep your eye out for us in the finished films section.

Good luck to all you guys that did make it. can't wait to check them out :D

Norm Sanders
06-03-2007, 03:34 PM
I concur with everyone's sentiments about being sorry to see that you weren't able to get it in, yet at the same time a sigh of relief as well, lol. You have some SERIOUS eye candy going on indeed with your visuals!

Can't wait to see the completed film as soon as it's ready!!

Fliques Osman

Hey Zenon,

I know this threads about Shadow Storm, but I am dying to know if Nightshifters was shot on the dvx100 NTSC or Pal version?

Keep up the good work
