HVX vs XDCAM

Okay, I have a dilemma. So I've seen both of these formats a number of times and I have yet to see anything from 24P XDCAM that looks nearly as filmic as the. I have heard from multiple sources that the XDCAM can be made to look very filmic but the SONY demo that was released of the footage makes it look like glorified video. Is there anyone out there that can show me quality, filmic looking XDCAM footage?

XDcam supposedly CAN look good, but I find anything sony to look like video. People though collateral looked good, and I though it looked, as you describe, like glorified video.

The motion is all off. It's too sharp in the wrong places. The image is cold and lifeless. It's very unemotional. That's the feeling I get when I look at anything from Sony.

That said they make some fine cameras, and I'm sure a skilled DP could prove me very wrong, but I have yet to see any footage from any sony camera in any price range to impress me.

For me there is no comparison between the two. Yes, XDCAM can shoot HD, however, it’s based on the HDV codec.
Yes, HDV can shoot nice footage, however, I would rather trust the DVCPROHD codec so I know my sports and high motion footage will come out without any artifacts.
But, I guess it will come down to a personal preference. If you’re looking for a codec that will take up less HD space, than, XDCAM may be the way to go. I’d rather have the peace of mind that comes with the DVCPROHD codec.

We did a side-by-side HVX versus 350s and the HVX had notably better color and latitude. I suspect this has to do with the 4:2:2 sampling versus XDCamHD's 4:2:0.

Everyone was surprised to say the least.

The guys from WETA Digital did the same test. They came to the same conclusion (as well as cleaner images for chroma keying) and bought the HVX.

After reading the Sony dirty marketing thread I'm boycotting Sony. I love their book reader (it's the consumer division... almost a different company), but after that, that's it.
No Sony media, Third party duo sticks for my PSP, and in fact, I think I might sell my psp.

Sony sucks. Let's hear it for nice companies! RED hasn't dissed Panny one bit even though they could play the 4k card. They don't.

Sony is like the Karl Rove of companies.
