Thanks guys!

I finally came up with an idea I liked. So with six weeks left in the game I'm gonna take my best shot at it.

Slightly more info at the top. More in a few hours when I get home.

OMG did you say there were only 6 weeks left, oh no, no oh crap, oh, whatever, we love the pressure. We haven't started filming yet, so there is p l e n t y of time to get things done, so we are telling ourselves.

Exactly. I wouldn't have it any other way... :)

I spent most of yesterday making calls and shooting emails. I have my fingers crossed that i can get the location I want. Looking into a fight choreographer. We'll see how that pans out. Bobette is always fun to work with so I'm jazzed about that. I'm waiting on her to send me a headshot so I can post it for you guys. But she was in my Sci-fest short, Ava, so you can see her in action there. I haven't worked with Nikki before, but she's a talented girl. I'm looking forward to it.

Mo - I wasn't able to get the fight choreographer I wanted, so I'm having to design my own fight scenes. What credentials do I have? I have watched a lot of Alias and Xena - ha ha. Hey, I spent a couple of hours today watching Xena clips and if it gets me there, that's all that matters. Let me know if you get stuck, I might be able to help you with a few moves.

Consider me intrigued. That's a great poster. Sounds like a different twist on the spy theme. Coolness. Welcome to the fest!

I am so bad about updating. I always feel like it won't be enough info or goodies... But here goes:

Turns out our shoot isn't going to be till the 19th and the 20th. Which is going to give us precious little time to edit. I learned my lesson with my sci-fest entry. We flat out ran out of time on that one and the effects show it. We'll be doing as much stuff in camera as possible. That will include squibs and the like. Bev and I will finally get to use the "guacamole gun" we built for our zombie short but never used. We have a habit of building at least one thing per film that we end up not using. Its become an unofficial tradition.

The husband of a friend of mine is hopefully going to give us permission to shoot at the hotel he owns. That would fulfill all our location needs. Fingers are crossed.

There's a complicated sequence set in an elevator, so we decided to build the elevator in another friend's garage to give us the most control over the situation. I didn't want to deal with the logistics of staging a fight in an elevator in a busy building. When you see the end result you'll know why.

And then there's the helicopter...

I have no idea why I feel compelled to write stuff in a script before I know exactly how I'm gonna do it. It kinda goes against one of the low budget filmmaker rules. You know the one where you use whatever you already have or can get access to, then write a story around it. Yeah I'm not too good with that. So I wrote a part where a main character makes an escape in a helicopter. Why? I don't know... Running off in a car just didn't grab me.

After calling several helicopter tour places and being quoted way more than my budget would allow, i finally found a place with a very reasonable rate. It will still take some tricky editing to make everything look the way I want to. Most of the effects work that I have involves this sequence. But I am jazzed. Hopefully it won't suck.

Thats it for now. I will try to be more frequent with the updates. I need to stay on all your minds.

Hey! My name is Juan and I'm new here. I'm looking forward to this one, too! I'm friends with Nikki and she told me that she had a lot of fun shooting this.

How goes the edit?

It was a wild and crazy weekend, but we managed to get everything shot. More or less. Of course there are things I'd do differently if we had more time. But I have to say the results so far are beyond my expectations. Cast and crew were a joy to work with. I think this is the most fun I've had so far doing a short film. I'm hoping I can edit it in time. We tried to keep it simple. We'll see if that worked or not. I'd better get back to it!!!

Finally some screen grabs!!!!

Hey there Juan! Nikki was great to work with. I'm looking forward to teaming up again.

Like I said in my previous post, its probably the most fun I've had shooting one of my shorts. Lots of laughs and good vibes. Not to mention a lot of good Karma. Things just seemed to fall into place for us when we most needed them to.

The editing has begun. I'm hopping a plane back to Cali in a few hours. So I'm losing some time in transit. It will literally come down to the last possible minute. I can assure you.

Love that first grab!

Thanks Brandon! That's our elevator set. We made the walls to be easily removed so we would have more freedom to place the camera. It worked out pretty well.

That's Danny Thompson. And to know him is to love him. :)

Actually there are three "Dans" in this film. Danny Thompson who played The Executive, Daniel Salvato who played Mace and Dani Eilander who played a waitress.

Yes, sleep is for the weak. I vaguely remember what its like to sleep... And I've had more Red Bulls in the last four days than the previous four years of my life!

And wait for it.....

We're out!!! Our sound is a bit of mess. Actually its a lot of a mess. And there's just isn't time to fix the issues properly. There's just too many missing elements in that department.

And the gloom sets in... :(

Bummer, Mojo. I was looking forward to your entry too.

Come back out to SLC and screen it (with BoP) at the Tower Theatre later this summer. :)

Sorry Mojo. Everything about this looked great. And then it comes down to audio. Still, I think you should keep working on the audio until the closure is officially announced. You never know.

Thanks Raptor. Unfortunately the audio issues are really really bad. Too much to overcome in a few hours. But we will finish this film regardless. I'll be heading back to Utah in a few weeks for a little ADR action with the actors. So we're only delayed, but not dead completely.

The piece looks great though! And with that ADR and some additional sound design this thing is going to sound great as well.

Thanks Herman. I appreciate all your last-minute help and advice. I agree that taking time and doing it right will make a much better film.

I'm going to work on the effects and color grading this weekend. Visually it's still raw. I should have some new and improved clips for next week. The ADR will be a few weeks out. i need to take a breather. Between travel and non-stop shooting, I'm exhausted. :)

Sorry to hear you're down, Mojo, but not out .... meaning, even though you didn't cross the finish line in time for the fest, you're not quitting & will see this all the way through. It'll be rewarding to you, as well as the cast & crew. Looking forward to seeing the finished product when you've got it completed!

Sorry to hear you are out. Sound was a bugaboo for me as well. I logged 40 hours or so just on the sound between Monday and Wednesday. Ughh. Looking forward to your completed film.
