Just in the midst of researching a new TV for the family. (And still awaiting a new HVX that's on order)

While the TV will primarily be used for night time movie viewing...I'd also like to get a TV that will show off the HVX footage in a good light but also find that sweet spot of price vs performance.

We'd also like the TV to be a reasonable size...minimum 106CM.

Anyone care to offer any words of wisdom re: the following...

Plasma or LCD?

What res as a minimum? Contrast Ratio?

Any other specs one should really ensure one gets these days?

Any current models or brands you care to recommend?

Thanks for any tips or experience you can help with!

Ok...doing a bit more research on this myself...impression I get is:

Plasma better for bigger picture...also better for fast motion.

Being a Panasonic loyalist now...this baby seems a tempting and reasonably prcied match for the HVX:

Thoughts?

Greetings

You should also check the Pani line of "industrial" plasma displays. These displays are less expensive than the "consumer" models.

I have an 8th gen Pani plasma. Very nice display with my only nit being the black levels aren't as good as claimed. I think the contrast ratios (for all displays) being quoted are pure fiction!

You should check out the avsforum for the best advice on displays. There are separate forums for different display types.

I've got a 7th Gen Panasonic 42" plasma that does an amazing job. Doing it again though I'd look at the industrial displays just to save a buck and ditch the ugly speaker I dont use :) The only thing I dont like about plasma is it catches reflections really bad because of the glass on the front. But in a dark room it just rocks!

I played some HVX footage on a 32" Sharp Aquos in 1080 and it looked fabulous.
Played the same footage downresed to SD off a DVD. Not so fabulous (although I did a crappy job of compressing and burning it to DVD.)

Thanks for the tips....that AVS forum is a good one..as is the tip on the Industrial plasmas! Hadn't even heard of those.

As a good Pana boy I think we'll just end up getting the best available Panasonic Plasma for our budget at the time of purchase!

I like the Samsungs, and of course, Pioneer Elite.
