Well, besides the Brevis, there must be some pretty cool gizmos out there that play very nicely with the HV-20. I just picked my camera up yesterday and found myself trooping through the rain from this week's Nor' Easter...

I was looking for a 43mm 81A filter to help keep the dust out of the lens area. Needless to say I did not find any 43mm filters in Boston. I did score a Manfrotto 680B monopod for $65. I was really looking for the 580 with feet but that was not about either. For $65 I was willing to give up the feet as I am sure they would be a hinderance on the beach.

At EMS i found a killer padded bag that fits the camera perfectly for $12. I think it was supposed to an insulated cooler, but it fits the camera perfectly with a little room in the lid for a lens cleaning kit. I tend to keep everything delicate that I own in bags, padded bags, even within cases as I live and spend my time in harsh environments. It makes a big difference.

I just thought I would share...
Jay

Jay, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the camera with a monopod. I've been shooting some footage on mine and have been disappointed. The picture quality is so good, that even the slightest camera shake (or sway) seems to detract from the visual experience. I'm now shopping for a light(er)weight tripod for it...

Thanks.

I bought "The Pod" last year, based upon a recommendation here on DVXUser. I've found it very useful. It's basically a beanbag that turns ANYTHING (signpost, table, chair, the ground, etc.) into a tripod.

I also have a $1000 Miller DS10...but find myself using the $15 Pod just as often.

I saw that today as well. I also I found myself looking at the Gorilla Pod, pretty cool little gizmo, but I passed. I have a Manfrotto 745B Tripod with a 701rc2 head. I had the 503 head on the same sticks. It was a much better set-up. I sold it on the forum and bought my current set-up which the seller had sold to me as the Carbon fiber version. I ended up with aluminum sticks and a lesser video head in rough shape. Live and learn...

I am always in the field and moving quickly, that is what inspired the monopod purchase. There is another forum member who used the 560b w/flip out feet. He loves the thing. I remember reading he could use it as a poor man's steady cam.

After I order a Brevis from Dennis I am picking up a Merlin from Tiffen.

Where is this going, got me...

I will be able to test this monopod in a day or two when I return to Nantucket. My spare quick plate is there so right now I can't attach the camera to the stick. I will post some monopod and poorman's steady cam footage as soon as I can.

The bag rocks, I can even Velcro a smaller bag into the lid to hold an extra tape, lens cleaning kit and possibly a battery. If nothing else now I can throw my cam into a backpack and not worry what is rubbing against it or about sand.

Good Luck,
Jay
