Any clues as to what happens with the venerable P2 store in light of 16 gig cards iminent release?

It would seem that the P2 store sized at 60 gig is going ot be kind of lame and a little small.

I hear rumors of a new product coming out that will
provide an answer to this question. Can't tell you any more about it, but stay tuned.

I've seen a picture of it - don't know where. It looks like a cross between the existing store and the mobile edit laptop. I've gone looking for it again, but someone yanked it.

seems like they could upgrade the 60 gig to maybe 120 gigs ?

There are some fat32 limitations they have to get around, currently the max they can do is 15 4GB partitions. I am not sure if they can do 8GB partitions or larger and still maintain maximum compatibility.

I think you're confusing maximum file size with maximum partition size. fat16 is limited to 2GB* partitions, but fat32 supports partitions up to 8TB (Windows 95/98 have smaller limits). On fat32 the maximum file size is limited to 4GB.

fat32 isn't a good filesystem: it's not robust and the 4GB file limit is really going to get annoying in future. However, I have yet to hear of any plan to replace it for removable flash media. ZFS, NTFS, UFS et al. are all too complex to implement in simple devices, perhaps a new but simple filesystem needs to created for cases like this?

*4GB in some implementations.

I believe on the NAB press release for Panasonic that someone posted a link too...

That a field recorder player is coming so you could view your and store your p2 footage... I wonder if that's going to be the new p2 store... since your right they say the 32 gig card is coming...

But that would be close to 60 minutes of 1080p recording time if you had a p2 store and two 32 gig p2 cards... more than enough for a days footage on a feature... unless you have one these studio directors who shoot 50 takes... for each set up...

Whatever I saw was roughly the same width as the existing store, but with a flip forward 2.5 or 3.5" lcd recessed about half-way back on the top. Cards still loaded up front, but it seems that there was more than one slot.

Otherwise, still looked like a P2Store. I remember thinking that it was just what I needed - apparently not enough to right-click it.

Your thinking of the "P2 Gear":

http://panasonic-broadcast.com/index.cfm?uuid=A130E452C09F11269B89B84D8643F16D&pid=11869&classid=263&catid=4283&jump=1

It works with external drives. What would make it a replacement for the P2 Store would be if Panasonic made some battery powered HD units that snap to the bottom of the P2 gear.

Actually, I was referring to the max number of partitions, not the size. Can you have more than 15 partitions?
