I know this is cheesy, but I'm excited to learn this program..I'm headed to the treadmill, where all my technical reading begins.. heheh.

Welcome to the club.
I think you are getting in at a potentially exciting time. 4.23 is supposed to be full of bug fixes. Then we are looking at Thompson/GV's first incantation with EDIUS w/ v4.5 just down the road a ways. It *sounds* like it will be a pretty big update, including changing the look of EDIUS, and bringing it in line with the other GV line of programs, etc. All just speculation at this point, but it is looking up, up to me at this point.
At the very least you will be working with p2 footage as it was meant to be. Please get a pcmcia adapter for your desktop, or a laptop that has a pcmcia slot. it will make life so much easier. You can start editing immediately. Even if you are transferring the footage from card to hdd. You don't have to wait for the transfer. Just start editing off the cards, and EDIUS will re-link to the HDD location when it is done with the transfer.

BTW folks, v4.24 went up just prior to NAB starting. It's not total fix, but... stay tuned.
BTW2: There's no "P" in Thomson. (insert chuckle)

Have fun and good luck. Edius is great when working with P2. Like any other proggramme it has its ups and downs. And it looks like the future points more Up than Down, so a good time to join ;-)

Hard to belive version 4 and it's still missing alot of features, and all the bugs it has. I think it will be a long time before it starts pointing up in my opinion.

It took Premiere a long time as well. EDIUS is fairly young in the grand scheme of the industry. Younger even than Vegas.

Premiere 4 was not considered a pro editing app kike eduis is, take a look at FCP at version 4 you sure got alot more for what you pay for.

With youth comes energy, with energy sometimes comes mistakes, but mistakes are often how we learn, be them our own or those of others, so as long as we keep learning, things get better, right?
