i have some 82mm UV, polarizing, etc filters and some macro adapters (1x, 2x, 4x, 10x) and i can't tell that the 720p footage looks worse just because none have "HD" on the box they came in. would i see the difference on a big screen? thanks.

I can...the HD filters leave my pockets very light.

Wait there are actually "HD" filters? What kind of marketing crap is that?

Or are they talking about filters that would be of use for HD and HDV cameras, like ultra cons, those digital FX filters tiffen came out with and those clear filters that cut down on infrared light (i forget the name)?

this would just be your bread-and butter generics, uv, polarizing, nd, 'fluorescent', etc. no FX. i posted about a fisheye adapter on another forum and somebody cautioned me to make sure i get one 'for hd' because the glass is 'cut different'.

I have been trying to find the answer to this as well. Formatt sells filters made with Water White Schott optical glass. Is there a difference?

When it comes down to it, HD cameras did not come about because of vast improvements in glass, but vast improvement in getting sensors to take higher resolution pictures (than before) in rapid succession without overheating. These are improvements in sensors and processing...

DSLRs still blow away HD cameras in resolution/detail. I have a hard time believing the glass for HD cameras are suddenly better that the glass of a L lens.

But then again there is more in this world that I don't know compared to what I do know....
