Posting this because I'm fed up of PAL and having to double check everything said about the HVX/FCP/Firestore because it invariably only refers to NTSC.
Can anyone direct me to some PAL-specific articles/threads etc for workflow? I'd love to have the problems and differences categorised somewhere, as I seem to get caught out from time to time.
I feel like the PAL user is a forgotten afterthought, even though it's a better format. I'd probably not even have to post this were it not for the fact that this site doesn't even recognise PAL as a search term!!
I know you yanks didn't like our tea, but did you have to make a point of changing everything that gets invented? Electricity supply, side of the road, order of the date, video format etc etc. Next thing we know you'll be letting people walk around with guns.

Hey Redcloak
i have used the hvx pal with firestore. It captures mxf files that you just decode using P2 import in FCP. Instead of picking the p2 card you pick the files off the firestore. the workflow is fine although at times the firestore has to be rebooted a few times to recognize the HVX can lead to a small amount of downtime on set, but i found it no biggie on a 3 day green screen shoot which included P2, firestore and direct to G5 recording.

Hi Red,
some of of your words are true, but these days I gave up feeling frustrated about the Empire... The Empire is real, is there, like it or not. Pana, Apple, etc don't care about 75% of the world...just go in the Capture Options in FCP and look at what formats we have in DVCproHD: 1080i50 that's it, while there are 720p24,30....that's the way it is...singing..
Anyway here, even if the US presence is the majority, most of them are very nice guys..nothing to do with the Big Gang Guys.... And they've been helpful, just ask, post, search. Barry is the first, I just received his book. it's great but even more it's a must have for the HVX and he writes for both of us: ntsc or pal.
Then there are many links searching 720p25 or 1080i50:
The fundamental is this one for us, Apple forgot about us....

Hope you can find something interesting, I'm not an FS100 user so I can't help. We rented once and no problem at all just copying the folder to our NLE hds after conforming to P2 as in he instructions. I'm waiting for Cineporter so by now we rent P2s every time we need until our bloody UE Distributors will make the prices as in US or less considering the euro/dollar quote of the last 30 days: 1.32/1.34... no comment.
I already partecipated to a long thread with JennyParis, but a month ago everything disappeared... have a look at all the posts, it's interesting!

Rap,
Thank you for the links, one of them I've certainly come across before, I'll spend some more time reading and trying to understand them. I have to say though part of the problem for me seems to be that every time something gets 'updated' I get excited only to find out (usually much later) that actually Pal-land hasn't been updated at all. It may be that searching under those terms will get me some answers (shoulda thought of that, too busy trying to be ironic).
I kinda thought they'd sort much of this stuff out at the same time as they sorted it out for the NTSC folk. Boy was I an optimist, and for a Brit that's going some.
I should say that the people on this site are fantastic and wonderfully helpful with their advice, I just wish oh wish that I used the same format they did, since when they talk about all these wonderful things this camera can do I have to spend a while figuring out if it applies to me or not.
I have ordered Barry's DVD incidentally, and even as I did I wondered whether it would be of less use to me than an NTSC user. Good to hear it'll be useful. It was cheap enough anyway, since the one thing being British gives you is a proper currency...
