I'm not quite sure if this is true or not yet...BUT...

I was capturing some footage I filmed on my DVX100A, using the HV20 as my capture deck...and I noticed something: If you press the display button while the camera is playing back the video, the date and time of the recording shows up!

I was always under the impression that this information was not stored on the tape itself, unless you turned on the date display during the filming. I first thought maybe this is new data that is recorded to HDV...but this is footage I shot on my 100A...can this be?

If so, it's pretty cool. Will confirm when I pull out some older tapes I shot a while back...might be a false alarm!

I'm not sure if I just didn't know if the DVX already did this or not, but from what I understood it didn't show that info. However, I put in a tape I used in my DVX in March, and amazingly, the correct date and time of the recording was in the LCD (although not recorded to the image). To me, this is awesome if it's a new feature, because when shooting for my Doc I didn't always keep the best records for tapes...

Yup, the DV standard has space for Date/Time and camera metadata (Aperature/Shutter/[etc?]..) in the recording. Most all DV cameras record this data (yes, even the metadata) and most of them also have the option to display the data on playback. Some NLE's can display thsi data too, some can't.

Ok...well I guess that's something everyone else might have known!

I thought I had read elsewhere someone asking if this info could be extracted from a recording and the answer was no! perhaps I just never tried it before...

in any event...go news for me! :)

Is there a 'display' button on the DVX100a? I don't seem to see it. How can I access this recorded info on the DVX100a?
