View Full Version : What PC/Graphics card do you have?
I'm looking at getting a new PC and was wondering what PC/graphics card you use to edit video with?
I heard that you need a really good graphics card or it could alter the quality of your video as you start cutting/converting/editing.
Is this true?
And why are apples commonly used for editing? Is it because they come stocked with a better graphic cards and setup for editing?
Thanks for any info! :D

Well, I dont know about others...But my graphics card is mid-range, I use the ATI Radeon X600 series, in a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 HP Pavilion, with 3G of RAM, and the Media Center card. I use this for all my HD stuff and it works great.

I have been reading up on the subject a little as I'm toying with the idea of a new system, and of all the parts of a computer, selecting the video card is what baffles me the most. I checked the videoguys site and they seem to profess that a gaming card isn't really what you want for video editing. Kind of counter-intuitive.

depends what you're doing. if you're editing in vegas, you don't need a great card. but if you're using magic bullet, you should get at least a 7800 gt.

Unless your editing system uses the GPU (graphics card) for rendering, it doesn't really matter what your card is.
Now, certain applications which do 3D-type effects have requirements, but for straight editing, it doesn't matter.
