Question for all the gurus here,

I'm equipped with an HVX200, M2 Redrock 35mm Adapter, Lenses, lights, PC, Raylight, and Vegas & Premiere Pro w/After Effects. I acquired all of this for the feature film I am working on, but in the meanwhiles (for practice mostly)...I'm getting ready to shoot a music video for my friend's band.

So here's my questions?

Should I shoot it in HD (1080i & 720p)?

The reason I ask is because, I will be publishing DVD's for their press package. But if I publish to a DVD, that'll down-grade it to standard DV, right? Does it help to shoot in HD and then down-grade for the DVD? Should I just shoot the whole thing in DVCPro50 or to tape?

I mean I figured, setting up dry runs using the P2 cards would be great practice, and using Raylight to edit the stuff would be another first for all my new gear & ware. But I started to think if it wouldn't be best served to just shoot it on DV.

Comments and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Shoot in HD. First and foremost how are you supposed to practice the P2 workflow if you are shooting to tape? Second think of the logging and capturing of those tapes. 3rd, HD is the future, hell its the NOW. Future proof their video and have it in HD.

Now that thats settled, you will probably want to shoot in 720pN so you can take advantage of the great variable frame rates that they use so often in music videos. YOu can mix and match the 1080 and 720 to use the variable frame rates, but makes life easier to keep everything in the same shooting mode.
