Help, I'm shooting HVX200 at 720P 30P and trying to use PP 2.0 on a 29.97 timeline and I'm getting slow motion and strobing effect, and the footage says it was shot at 59.94 fps, even if I use interperate footage at 29.97 I still get this effect.. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance..

You actually have 60 frames as 720/30p is shot "over 60" meaning the frames are duplicated so you need to extract the flagged frames. Not sure how you'd do that with PP. With FCP you use the frame rate converter.

S0 does this mean I'm doomed with all 720P and variable frame rates too, what about 720P 24P? it runs like this too..

I don't know how PP handles this footage, so I don't know if you are doomed.
Yes the 720/24p is recorded "over 60" as well using a 2:3 pulldown.
You can always shoot in 24PN or 30PN where only those frames are recorded so there are no duplicates.

I would have tried that in the first place but I record straight to the FS-100 and when I set the camera to 720P 30PN (or any other PN mode), the "1394" in the top left of my LCD screen dissapears and when I hit record, nothing happens.. What else am I doing wrong?

You must never set the HVX into 720pN mode when using the FireStore. Use the 720P modes instead.

The panny book says "no signals are output from the 1394 terminal during record in native mode", oh well, I will use 720P instead but on a windows XP system with Premiere Pro 2.0, how will I convert my frames, with what frame rate convertor?

Raylight strips out duplicate frames on the PC. The FireStore v3.0 will strip out duplicate frames when recording in P2 PN or Quicktime PN mode, but only if you've shot at 24p or 30p, it won't do it for any other frame rate.

Yes, but the HVX200 does not put out a signal through the Firewire in PN mode, so I cant use my FS-100 for any Native cature, and I dont have any P2 cards so I'm stuck inbetween a rock... How else can I go from thr HVX to the FS-100?

If you want to do variable frame rates, the firestore is not the best product for that. You can jump through some hoops and make it happen -- either by using raylight, or FCP's frame rate converter, to strip out the duplicate frames. But if you don't do one or the other of those, then I don't know what to tell you. Hopefully Focus will continue to offer upgrades, and one of those upgrades will hopefully be proper VFR support.

If you can get access to FCP you can use the frame rate converter to work with your existing firestore files.

Thanks Barry!

I found the coolest link to cinema equipment, in Australia I believe, but nice stuff to dream about using..
