I think the answer is yes to this but I just want to make sure before I plunk down $200.

yep, I depend on them since my laptop only has 40gb of space

I edit 720p off of USB2 drives all the time. No problem. I dunno about 1080, as I haven't really worked with any yet. But it should work, provided your computer can handle the 1080.

I use Vegas on a PC. But I know Jack edits 720p on his mac laptop with USB2 drives all the time too.

I edit on my iMac 24" and C2D MBP from USB 2.0 drives with no problem.

I edit with Final cut, and have a Power mac g5 with intel and never had a problem, use to at school with the older g5's but they were old. Dont think you would ever run into a prob beside it shutting down on you. Save a lot more than you usually would.
