Got my HV20 today. Way better than I expected and I expected a lot! These are screengrabs from video I shot at sunset today in Arizona just outside my house. I used the HDTV2MPEG2, VirtualdubMod IVTC system that I talked about in an earlier thread to remove the pulldown. After the IVTC, I resized these with a Lanczos3 algorithm to 720p. There is a little edge enhancement but I didn't lower the sharpness, I have done that since in cam. Can you believe the shot with the star in the sky? I had the shutter locked at 1/48 in TV mode so I know it wasn't doing any slow shutter behind the scenes. In the second to last grab the tree in the middle is closer than the ones to the sides. I got a little shallow DOF and I was quite some distance away. This cam is amazing.

Thanks. I personally don't like the "Cinema mode" too much (but may opinion might change!). I really dig the deep blacks and "contrasty" look without it. I'm referring to the custom gamma setting they have.

Here's more for you. Shot this just this morning. This cam assuredly HAS built in ND filters. I see no other way I could have got shallow DOF like this at 1/48. I think the size of the CMOS is doing wonders. I'm sold and so happy with the purchase. To me it performs well at dusk and bright sunlight! Believe me, we get plenty of sunshine in Tucson.

The camera does have built in ND filters. From what I've observed, they are two stage and slide into play as the cam attempts to reduce exposure. At high zoom, you should indeed get pretty shallow DOF.

Hey, those are great! Any chance the XH-A1 will give the same spectacular results (since that's the one I ordered)? Especially love the salamanders.
By the way, how far off where you standing from that wall?
Finally, I'm appalled how that pigeon is blatantly plugging her employer!!

Since the A1 is a pro cam and I've heard nothing but good things about it so I would say "yes". I was about 3-4' away from the salamanders. I am consistantly suprised that I don't have to get right up on the subject for shallow DOF. I mistakenly left the ladder up for a few days and what do you know? Thanks Polle! Have fun when you get your A1.
