After reading through some posts about achieving a shallow DOF, it seems some people are using close-up filters to aid in their efforts. I have 2 questions regarding to this technique:

1) What kind of close-up filter is suggested? Can I get away with a cheap set such as this...

http://www.adorama.com/MC72CUS.html

2) Is the effect any different than moving the camera back and zooming in?

Thanks!

Eric

1. You can get away with a cheaper set, such as THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Close-Up-Kit-Set-1-2-4-Macro-10-72mm-NEW_W0QQitemZ190098332928QQcategoryZ43479QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem)

2. Yes. Keep in mind that you can only focus on objects that are within a foot or two from the lens.

Thanks!

Alright brown,

I bought the eBay ones. Let's hope you didn't steer me wrong. :)
