It roughly has 7 hours on it and it's in pristine condition. How much could I get for it (U.S currency)?

Yes, sadly to say. This is even better compare to B & H price the value yours around 1500 USD. I bought mine when XL2 was just came to the market for over 5000. I took it with me to see Tsunami in Indonesia. I know people notice it immediately.
I am not sure if XL2 higher price overseas. I am thinking to sell mine in Australia or Bankok or South East Asia. Anybody knows price in South East Asia?

Well, if you sell them to a company, it's obviously going to be a lot less. It's almost like selling it to a pawnshop. They don't give you much for it and they turn around and sell it for a lot more. I am pretty sure used XL2's go for almost $2800 at B&H.

I bought mine in November last year for about $5,000AUD. After realising the camera was unsuitable for my work I tried to sell it on e-bay.
With only about 20hrs on the heads all it could raise was about $3500AUD. I pulled the plug on the auction at the last minute (I know that's not a nice thing to do) but I was not going to loose $1,500AUD just like that!! I've since bought another DVX and now have the XL2 as an emergency backup.

If I got $3500AUS with 6 hours on my heads, I would be one happy dude. I bought the camera when the Canadian dollar was high and since now that it's lowered, if I sold it for the same American price as I bought it, I would actually gain money.

Regarding the SE Asia question, I bought an XL-2 in excellent condition off ebay from Malaysia a few months ago. The price was $1,800 w/o the lens so I'd guess their prices are close to the U.S.

Moonlitnite,
How much you ended up paying with shipping cost?
I see the Lens price from B&H around $1400 USD.
Buying from ebay I assume with no guarantee?
I am going to travel to SE in next 3 months. I would like to bring my XL2 and sell before I leave the country. Do you think I can sell it for $3000. I have the box and original receipt. It is in good condition.

Hi Tolakvoa,

DHL shipping was about $50 for my XL-2 from the SE. I'd say the lens would go for around $700-800 or so in the marketplace (I paid $700 for a 3X) - some may get more in restricted markets or a buyer that isn't cost sensitive. No, I don't think you'll get $3000 for the camera - my guess is the real issue is quite a few in the SE marketplace would rather to get the Canon A1 in that price range. You should be aware Amazon is now selling the XL-2 for $3,100 brand new - including a $300 rebate (http://us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?.rand=c3s6382bipn5c)

Good luck, Michael

Hi Morox,

Just looking for an update, and wondering if you decided to sell or not after all? I assume you are in Canada if you're buying "when the Canadaian dollar was high". If you sold, were you happy with what you got?

I sold it for $3100. Very happy with that price.

Congratulations! Glad you're happy. I am trying to find a reasonably priced XL2 in Canada myself. It is ghastly how much price inflation there is on these things just because they are in Canada. Ouch. The camera store in town tells me a new XL2 will run $6000-ish CAN. Way out of my budget.

Do you buy off of Ebay? They usually have some good deals on there. Just watch out for anything coming from Brooklyn, it's usually grey market merchandise.

Yeah, I'm on ebay, and always looking, but you just never know what you're really buying, and if you're actually going to receive anything. Usually everybody SAYS they have return policies and will take care of you, but when you have a problem suddenly they don't seem to get your emails anymore. Plus there's a lot of scamming attempts too.

And the other thing is that if you buy from the US, as soon as it comes across into Canada, the government hits you with massive duties, and the post office charges a fee for calculating the duties you owe. So ideally getting one from a fellow Canadian is the best way to go. But I'm gonna keep looking!

You can avoid fees from over-the-border purchases. When I purchased my XL2 on Ebay, I never had to pay anything once it came to my door. Just make sure the seller sends it by USPS (not UPS) and you will be fine.

No kidding eh? I didn't realize that! I wonder why USPS is able to avoid that? Thats great! Thanks for letting me know!
