Hello!

I borrowed a friends 8gig P2 card for a recent trip to Europe. I also had my own 4gig shooting 720pn 30FPS and was offloading to my PBG4 1.67 with 1.5gig RAM, OSX 10.4.9 and FCP 5.1.4 ...

It appears that clips that spanned both cards had a glitch when importing and came out as random frame rates. Frame rates like 3, 18, 20 etc... Luckily? it was just vacation footage so it isn't quite a tragic as it could be.

This was the first time I have ever used 2 cards and really the first I have done any extensive capturing using FCP 5.1.4 ... I've never had FPS issue before... I did have the digital noise glitch before I switched the write protect and upgraded to 5.1.4...

Anyone out have any advice?

Thanks
Sean

I had this same problem today. 90% of my footage was captured at the proper rate (720PN24FPS) and a few were 10fps, 21fps and 3fps. I have never had thi problem before.

It's a bit of a shock isn't it?

Were you using 2 cards as well?

I've seen that mentioned before, it appears to be a FCP bug, though I'm surprised it still exists in 5.1.4. The video itself is actually fine, FCP just seems to interpret it wrong. I hope BenB or another Mac guru can chime in.

Yeah, I think the footage would have been ok if I had copied the MXFs over but I was just importing into FCP, reformatting and shooting more...

Unfortunatley, the clips are actually 3 FPS, or 21 or some other random numbers.. I was hoping I could use the Frame Rate Converter to fix them but it isn't possible to add frames that aren't there.

On a Mac I'd use Cinema Tools (comes with FCP). The 3fps etc should just be a header issue. You can choose 30fps as the framerate and the clip should then just run at that speed. Frames shouldn't have been dropped, and should still be 'inside' the QT.

.

Another good reason to treat the MXF files as you would a master tape:huh:

Saying that, for the last few shoots I've been using FCP for offloading straight from the cards using my P2Store as a reader, 1080P and 720Pn.
This cuts my data handling in half, storage etc., because touch wood, I've had no corruptions of QT's and hence needing to re-import from the MXF's hasn't been an issue in over a year of use.
I always count the files quickly, comparing card to imported and scrub through the clips quickly before re-formatting the card.
I've only been doing this since FCP 5.1.4.

Naughty, but nice...

Thanks for the input, everybody!

Before 5.1.4 I always copied MXFs to my drive then imported into FCP. And now I guess I will continue to do so... at least when I am using more than 1 card.

I tried using Cinema Tools to repair one of the clips but it came back with
ERROR: Unable to find clip(s) with 29.97FPS to process.

Any other ideas? Is there any way to change the header info?

Thanks!
