So I have seen the posts on here re: Youtube quality settings but I feel it is a tad bit lacking. I have some questions, wanted to see if anyone knows the answer.

3.5 minute project
Shot HVX 720p
Cut on FCP

If I am making a QT w/ h.264 and I change the kbps to 2000 or above is this more desirable than having the compression quality higher?

Becuase when I change kbps compression quality is automatically locked.

When I just do a highest quality compression .mov the file size is 167MB, whats the best way to get to 100MB?

Thanks

The best way to get quality picture on youtube is as a .flv (flash) file. It skips the step of compressing your file even more.

Check out these two posts on my blog:
http://ellingtonmedia.com/blog/2007/03/07/6-tips-for-high-quality-youtube-video/

Since you already have footage, the first one will probably be more helpful. I dont know if posting an FLV will actually help, because youtube is going to reencode it anyway. And it is very hard to get visually lossless flash video without the expensive On2VP6 codec.

If your using COMPRESSOR 2.3 then check out this Ken Stone Tutorial. I tried it today and it worked but I couldnt get the file under the 100mb limit for the longest time. I finally made some adjustments that I hadn't and it came out to 93mbs and doesn't look that bad on YouTube.
