Me and my buddies play the videogame Smash Bros. on the GameCube and we want to videotape some of our matches with the V1U. I used to do this all the time with my old camcorder using a standard composite cable, but I don't think it is possible with the V1 because as far as I can tell it only has outputs, no inputs.

Tell me it ain't so!

Is there any way to connect the V1 directly to a Television so we can record our matches?

None of the under-$10,000 camcorders will let you do that in high-def, none of them have HD inputs.

Don't know about the V1U as to whether it has SD input or not though.

Thanks, Barry.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have SD inputs either.

Thanks, Barry.

Unfortunately, it looks like it doesn't have SD inputs either.

Spent a bit of time at NAB trying to solve exactly this problem, how to encode to HDV from HD SDI /component / HDMI etc.
Miranda and Convergent Design both said go see Roland and yes indeed they have the box to do the job. Record to HDV direct from a PC screen etc. Just a tad under $10K. Basically the old Sony 1024 scan converter on steroids.

I know that sounds expensive but compared to the only other options, like recording to HDCAM it's very cheap. Just the money you'd save in tape would soon pay for it. We should have one shortly.
