Is it possible to set the HVX so no sound is recorded to the internal mic? Not tuned down but never actually recorded.

Set the input to the XLRs and don't connect any mikes. Not quite the same thing, but channels 1 & 2 will be silent.

If you mean a setting that prevents a sound file from being recorded- no. It will be recorded regardless. Too bad, as such a setting could increase P2 capacity a bit when the need is for video only.

Ch's 1 & 2 may be silent but if recording to P2 then ch's 3 & 4 will have the onboard mic sound recorded with no way of controlling it.
If you just want silence then you're better off leaving the ch's 1 & 2 select switches on internal and turning the levels down to 0.

I was afraid that was the answer. Since 90% of my filming is from a helicopter its a waste of storage to capture a bunch of engine/rotor noise. I would have thought it would have been an easy and inexpensive feature to include.

Thanks for the replies!

Some of us are hoping that will be a feature in an upcoming firmware update.
Then again we will probably regret it as there'll be the inevitable question.....
"Why didn't I get audio recorded on my HVX?"

Sound takes up so little space, if you could disable it, you'd get very minimal extra space. So little, you'd probably not notice.
