Shot in letterbox but comes out widescreen?

I just shot some interviews today with my dvx100b and I was in letterbox mode. I captured and played it back in premiere pro and everything looked good in the preview window, but when i exported(as .avi) the interviews and watched them in windows media player, it was stretched horizontally as if it was widescreen. I even played back the unexported clips that were created when i captured and they were stretched. I don't know why it would do this, is it something with premiere or windows media player or what?

EDIT: Well I just opened a clip in quicktime to compress it to show a friend and it isn't stretched in the player, so it must be something with windows media, I'll look around the settings and see if something isn't right

Even when I converted the avi (that was coming out squished) to DVD, it played that way on the TV!

The only fix I found was to uprez it, or convert it to 16:9!

Unfortunately no one had any answers for me, hopefully you'll have better luck!

agh well after searching some since I figured it was a wmp problem, I realized that wmp is just weird like that, i downloaded real player and it's all good there, gives me an excuse to dump wmp anyways, never plays my music or video good. Sorry for the topic, just kinda stressed out about it at first, didn't want to have to reshoot everything

Are you exporting as 16:9 or 4:3?
