"check the number of hours on the heads"..what does that mean and how does it effect the DVX camcorder?

Just curious, thanks!

Go into the DVX menu and select "other functions", scroll all the way down and it will tell you how many hours are logged on the camera heads. It's like a car odometer. Barry suggests you get the heads cleaned every 50 hours to avoid the dreaded red X. The DVX manual says it has a lifespan of 2500 hours (if I remember correctly). If you already have about 2490+ hours, wear some protective goggles when you go out and shoot because the camera can explode and send shrapnel towards the operator's face.

That is not the number of hours that tape has been run across the heads because I only have 14 hours on the 100b that I purchased in August of 06' and have only used 9 tapes and I dont use my cam to capture with and those tapes were not all used up on the takeup.

Best,

Rob

It counts the number of hours that the heads are engaged with the tape. You don't have to be recording at the time for the counter to be active.
