This is my first attempt at product photography. Shot with the Pentax *IstDL (entry level SLR) and an old 50mm Ashi lens f2.8. Something about this photo bugs me. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, that food looks revolting, for one. What is that with the catsup drizzled all over it? Other than that, nice photo.

I think there's a glass that's half-hidden on the left..it seems quite distracting..
Are you focusing on the food, the glass of stout or the menu? I think you might want to center your positioning or focus on lesser items in this particular layout. :)

Putting you product right smack in the middle doesn't do much in creativity..do the rule of thirds to help you create a more interesting pix. Also you can see your reflection in the glass and the reflection off the table doesn't help much.

That's hilarious! It does look horrible!
I shot one without the glass in the background and it bugged me ever more... I was going for a still-life composition and not a single product focus but I agree that the beer is too centered. The reflection in the glass does have to go.
Thanks all, that is helpful stuff.
