I successfully transferred 2 of 3 P2 card contents/lastclip folders to my Mac
and got them into final cut. Card 2 refuses - cannot be opened by P2 log (says it is not a P2 volume), cannot be imported by FCP P2 import - click on it and it says wrong directory structure, and no new files are added. I can open the "Icon" file inside the contents folder and see the clip icons- all looks fine. Any ideas how to get my footage? Has anyone made an application to take an individual MXF file and convert it to QT?

Both Canopus Edius and the Batch Converter included with the Adobe/Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder let you drag MXF files into them, so there is a chance that one of them might accept the files.

I'd be more than glad to try it, but I might need the entire card contents to do that.

Also look at P2 Log Pro, which is a newer version that has clip-repair capabilities.

HDLog or P2Log Pro has Clip Repair Wizard, that allows recreation of P2 Volumes from stray MXF files. Try either of these. HDLog now sports whole folder conversions provided the MXF files are all of the same format. www.imagineproducts.com

P2 log pro trial, which allows repair of one clip, was able to repair one of my files to the point it could be viewed on the preview. However, after many tries, I was never able to import the clip into FCP.

P2 log pro trial, which allows repair of one clip, was able to repair one of my files to the point it could be viewed on the preview. However, after many tries, I was never able to import the clip into FCP.I had that problem too, discovered FCP is rather sensitive about certain XML data. They just posted a newer version of P2 Log Pro (2.3?) that seems to help. You might try the newer demo, or just ask them what's up. (I sent them the XML part from the P2 folder and they helped me.)

I want to stick with FCP if possible for importing. Intitially I never had a problem using the camera as a card reader - every file imported flawlessly. Then I got a laptop (PC) and
used it to load cards onto an external HD. When I tried to import from that into FCP, many clips refused to import (although the thumbnails are displayed and can be played on the preview window). Now, even when using the camera as a card reader, the chances of a clip importing are less than 50/50. Often a clip will import, though, after several attempts. An update to FCP 5.14 did not seem to help. Anyone have any ideas on whats up?

Apple recommends first copying the P2 volumes to hard disk--I think you've discovered why. If you do that step you should be able to use the FCP import just fine. In the meantime if the files won't load, you're going to have to repair them with another software. Or, you might be able to use the Windows P2 viewer to open, then save back to the card or camera to repair them, then copy back to disk so FCP can import them--a lot of steps but free (er, how much is your time worth?).

I had an MXF issue the first time I tried using the FS100 recording to MXF instead of Quicktime. I could see all the MXF files in the import window but they were ghosted. From the import p2 screen click the little cog and select custom path from the pulldown. Then select a higher level folder like contents, clips, video, etc., sorry I don't remember which one. That folder becomes the root and all of the mxf files should be able to be opened/edited/imported from there. Good Luck.
