Hey guys, I'm in the market forr a new tripod head, my current one cant handle the weight of my matte box. I'm wondering if I should go with the manfrotto 501 or 516. I am going to be getting a 35 adapter to use with my camera. will the 501 be able to handle a dvx, rails, adaptor, lense, and matte box? peeps ith x-perience let me know.

I have the 503 and it holds my HVX, Rails, M2, follow focus and lenses just fine. I have heard people say that this setup is to much for the 503, but I have never had a problem. I tried the 501 and it didnt feel as fluid a the 503.

I have the 516 and I love it... You're better off getting the 516 and over-compensating, then getting a tripod that isn't capable of handling the weight.. 516 Gread head!

DanKov, listen to AbstractTheory. Go big first then you won't have problems later.
at a minimum 516.
What sticks are y'all putting those 503 and 516's on?

Thanks guys, 516 sounds like the way to go. just wish it wasn't so much more expensive :( guesse its just the price we pay though!!:)

I've got 3192 sticks.. very sturdy, heavy duty and great for indoor or outdoor.. But they're pretty heavy... I'd like to get another set of lightweight carbon sticks for the application.. I hate lugging the 3192 around when I need to move positions frequently.. Anyone have a reco on some nice lightweight CF stix for my 516?

if you already have the 501 or 503 the tripod plate is not the same for the 516 but it is the same for the 519 or atleast thats what i was told by b&h.
