Hi !!

The DVX records in progressive mode and prints to tape the resulting image in interlaced mode... I've read in Barry's book that we can recover the original progressive footage using a NLE...

How can this be made? When should we do it?

If the final playback mode will be a TV set (interlaced) has it any sense to deinterlaced de footage?

We also must consider that nowadays there are many TV devices which scan mode is progressive. In this case how could we work with our DVX footage to get the best from it?

Many quetions, I'm sorry but this issue of progressive-interlaced keeps me in a complete mess.

Thanks a lot :-)

Never de-interlace, that's an old outdated technique from a time before we had true progressive-scan footage.

You don't need to be in any sort of mess, because you're a PAL user. You have it so much easier than us NTSC users. Just choose whether you like the look of interlaced footage (the "live" look, or the "reality" look) or whether you like the look of 25p progressive (the "film" look). You really have no hassles either way.

OK

Then I shouldn't concern about the progressive-interlaced issue and just choose the format (60i-25P) I prefer (25P is the one)

Thank you very much, Barry.

But in FCP, how should the field order be set ?
progressive or as interlaced (don't remember if it's "upper" or "lower") ?

Thank you

If progressive it's supposed to be set to 'none' though I have just left it on default (upper I think for PAL) before and they still work fine.
