My first 16mm film. Silent. Shot on Tri-X on a bolex.

Yes, I'm aware of the spelling mistake in the intertitles.

Nice job. It's cool to see authentic film scratches and grain for a change!

Well, there's the nostalgia kick of real film and b&w to boot., so props for that. I guess it's not quite finished? It ends rather abruptly.
It's a silent film, but with a non-stop loud track, it feels like a music video, including the cutting rhythms, acting etc.... nothing wrong with that, but I'm not sure that's what you were aiming for.
Btw. I do like the music... what is it?

The story doesn't make much sense because I messed some continuity up, but other than the fact that his arm doesn't seem badly harmed in the last scene, it's exactly the story I wanted to tell. The mannequin took a long time to make, so there's no sense improvising an ending like that.
The sound track was added in after the edit was locked. It syncs well, but not intentionally. The fast edits and slow motion are all very intentional. Most of the slight jump cuts are, too. It's not cut like Classical Hollywood silents, but more like Impressionism or something, mostly because it's supposed to be sort of subjective.
The music is by Air. I'd recommend checking out their sound track to The Virgin Suicides and particularly the track Playground Love. The album Moon Safari seems good, but I haven't heard it all. Few of their songs have vocals.
As for the "real" grain, I love it...but I also love getting back to Final Cut. I screwed up a few shots and the timed telecine and color corrector fixed the one or two over and underexposures. Also, the Steinbeck scratches like crazy. Exposing Tri-X is a nightmare, too. People who think film has unlimited dynamic range should try reversal. Video is very forgiving by comparison.

I'd like to see how this film works with an impressionist soundtrack.

I liked it a lot. The end was pretty funny. I loved the student film look of it.
