has anyone seen GS400 footage on the big screen? How does it compare to DVX footage?
the GS400 has 16:9 chips right? does that help it in the blowup?

I've had numerous GS400 and DVX projects projected. It's almost always disappointing to a degree. DVX or GS400, DV resolution is going to look a bit soft on a big screen. Usually they look nice on 10-20' screens, but I've had stuff projected in 450 seat stadium theaters as well, and, well, what can you expect out of 720x480 video?
Other factors that will contribute to the look of the projection: The projector, the format, the aspect ratio, interlacing. Oftentimes, at least for festivals, the video gets resized and recompressed to a DVD or miniDV for projection. Then the projector may resize as well. It may try to deinterlace your already progressive footage. All in all, it's a mess. As much information as you can get in advance to provide a foolproof exhibition master, they usually find a way to screw it up.
Anyway, the best you can do, in my opinion, is to create the best possible images to start with, and hope they hold up. In that regard, the DVX has the edge over the GS400 in terms of resolution and 24p. Still the GS400 can look good, too. If that's all you have, go for it.
