Help! everything I've read has said this is possible, but I can't get it to work.

I'm trying to view and capture a live HD 720p or 1080i signal from my HVX to my 1.5ghz POWERPC G4 and/or my 1.67ghz POWERBOOK G4 through the firewire cable. I've tried using Quicktime Pro, Final Cut Pro and iMovie HD to view and capture. It works fine with all with all three programs as long as the RECORDING FORMAT is on 480i, but when I switch to any of the HD RECORDING FORMATS it says the camera can't be found, or that it's sending half-sized frames, etc. I seems like I'm missing a setting somewhere?

P.S. I can mount the P2 card and get recorded footage no problem.

many thanks!

It works only with FCP 5.x or better.

Match the cam settings to the FCP settings, and don't use a native mode

Elect non controllable device in the log/capture windows and hit capture now.

On the AV IN/OUT SETUP screen, set CMPNT OUT SEL to the appropriate frame size -- 720p, 1080i, or 480i.

Then check the DISPLAY SETUP screen and set VIDEO OUT OSD on or off. This controls whether the On Screen Display text is sent out the Firewire or not (depending on whether you have a monitor hooked up or if you are capturing).

On the OTHER FUNCTIONS screen, you can change the 1394 CONTROL setting, which determines what kind of control signals are sent over Firewire to the recorder or your NLE. Also, you can change the 1394 CMD SEL which determines whether pause or stop signals are sent when you press the red button. If these are not set correctly, you can still press "Capture Now" in FCP to record. But if you want the camera's record button to send signals to FCP, you will probalby need to set these.

I only have FCP 5.x so I can't say anything about earlier versions.

Should work with 4.5 or later. 4.5 is when they first added live firewire capture for HD.
