Do you have a video on YOUTUBE or MYSPACE?

Post a link to it here and include EXACTLY what settings/format you used to get the image quality that you have.

Who has the best quality image and how did you get it to look so good! Especially those who shot with the DVX100A and edited in Final Cut Pro! How did you get your video to look great regardless of these sites re-compressing your footage? Who here figured it out and got the best looking upload?

Hey rcbrown23 -

Did you ever figure out how to get those results using Quicktime and Compressor?? I've been trying unsuccessfully for so long that it's driving me crazy...

Thanks for any input/tips. I'm damn near losing it here with all this experimenting.

Also already tried the second one...didn't get good results.

Damn... I was hoping for good (decent) quality from that one.

Nope, haven't found a way with compressor... I honestly haven't been trying, as I have my own website:happy:

Yea I have videos on both sites and I seem to have better looking videos on Myspace than on YouTube but I know for a fact the YT recompresses the video. I've used what I think are close to the highest quality settings when I am compressing my footage using Compressor 2.

I have seen a bunch of videos from mainstream artists that were on both sites and they look crystal clear with no recompression as if you were watching them on TV. Now I know those videos were shot on film but how in the world did they get it to look so crystal clear???

This is from the YouTube help center:

What's the best format to upload for high quality?

We recommend the following settings:

MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
320x240 resolution
MP3 audio
30 frames per second
Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your videos look better on YouTube.

and this:

What video file formats can I upload?

YouTube accepts video files from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones in the .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.

Anyone else figure it out?

The maximum file size to upload to YouTube is 100MB. I recommend that you upload 30fps 320 x 240 h264 quicktime at the highest data rate that will allow you to keep the final file under 100MB. Don't forget to figure in the audio. 48kbs MP3 should be fine. Regardless, YouTube quality will be poor until they upgrade to the ON2 codec for Flash Player 8 and above. I would expect that to happen sometime this year . . . hopefully.

This is just speculation on my part, but it is entirely possible that certain content uploaded by certain individuals might be allowed to either upload without recompression or upload with better quality. Those individuals might be media companies, etc, that have popular content on the site. In any case, it might be beyond your control as a normal user.

I just uploaded a video to youtube using Premiere Pro 1.5 I used Sorenson inside Adobe to compress it. You've got to upload 4:3 if you want letterboxed widescreen on myspace and youtube.[figured that one out today lol] The file size was 50.1mb before i sent it to youtube. Using h.264 my file size was around 99.4mb and that codec up'd the contrast and brightness of my videos. I like Sorenson better as of right now. heres the link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McjbFeLJq7Q.

Got this from the "compression" section of the furum, from fellow dvxuser Sellington...

YouTube also scales video up to play back at a larger size than the compression. This really makes it look worse than it needs to. Check out my video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsh3Bf6PIYs

and click the "play actual size" icon in the bottom right of the player (the one that is a rectangle inside a rectangle). It doesn't look too bad considering the low datarate.

Also, as a general compression rule, you'll get much better results if whatever you film is done with a stationary camera (tripod, no pans or zooms).

I too have been trying without much success to get better quality out of YouTube. Or, as I like to call it S**tTube. I've also followed the instructions in this link, to a T

http://ellingtonmedia.com/blog/2007/03/07/6-tips-for-high-quality-youtube-video/

sorry, if it's the same link that rcbrown23 just gave...........great link though

Someone on one of these YouTube/compression threads mentioned "Garbage in, garbage out". So, if you produce a well shot and lit film/video the better chance your video will have being crisp & clear in YouTube land. I have yet to achieve this, but will be sure to pay greater attention in the future.

mikecost.....great video! Cracked up on the theme as well as being well shot & edited. I don't have Sorenson, but have heard mostly good things about it.

Bodean....also great video. Very, very well shot. You both managed really good quality. Much better than my attempt at conquering the YouTube/compression demon.

I shot this on a DVX-100B at 24p. Used Quicktime Pro h.264 at 2000kbps and 24fps. I didn't address the audio (which is off fractionally)....probably due to the fact that I have some missing (blank) frames which can throw off audio sync. The dark parts retain that lovely YouTube fuzz, but the better lit scenes (in the bar) have a slightly better quality than when I put up the same vid without the improved compression settings.

Philly....sorry if there's no new info for you in this post, but I seem to find myself in the same boat as you. I've been doing this compression dance for the past 2-3 weeks.
Maybe, as stated earlier in this thread, YouTube will improve things on THEIR end and we'll all be happy.

Aloha

the recent creative cow magazine describes a way to upload files without youtube compressing them. I recently followed this and there was no change in compression...although you do lose initial quality.

This only works by using something like after effects to export the file as an .flv using FLASH 7 SORENSON SPARK (not the newer flash 8 vp6)

i only did one encode but im sure you can get crazy good results with this.

I just did this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfFHbmCfCMo

I used after effects export as FLV movie, then chose flash 7 sorenson spark, I made the bitrate like 1000 or something.

The file ended up being about 6.3mb

The quality you see in the youtube video is almost identical in quality (id say it lost about 5% of quality) to the flv that I exported.

Im sure that if you set the bitrate higher you can get better results.

Anyone who knows how to get good results when exporting from Final Cut Pro? Using compressor or quicktime.

I've been trying this for months now and I can't get it right. Thanks!

Hi everyone. Above is a link to my movie trailer on YouTube. The movie is called BLEEDING ROSE. It's my first feature. Check it out.

The setting I used were generic settings from a compression software built in my ACID program.

If you want to know more about our movie or us, below are our myspace and website links.

PLEASE someone who uses Final Cut Pro let me know how you get good quality on youtube...I NEED to get a video up as soon as possible and no matter what I try, I can't get it right.

Please also try to be as specific as possible. Thanks!

I think You tube is one of the greatest internet inventions in recent years; I've seen so much talent on there; some really inspiring material. Whats even more inspiring, is that alot of the things I've seen on there are the lowest of low in terms of production, yet are still entertaining for hours and hours. To quote of my favorite lines in the last few months, its "the Way of the Future"

I figured out how to get decent quality on you tube with sorenson squeeze .flv

But putting the same file on myspace, it looks horrible. Is there a different way to compress on myspace, should i still use .flv?

Thank you
