Hi,
I was on a live shoot and one cameraman was running his HVX into DV Rack. There was a long take that ran over 4GB and DV Rack crashed. I'm assuming this has something to do with the 4GB limit with FAT32 that I've seen on here. Anyway, I told him I'd try and help him find out how to save the corrupt QT file if that is possible. He was running into "the Windows side of a Macbook Pro" (whatever that means). He says the file can't be opened or copied and I'm assuming that since it wasn't shot on a P2 he can't put the file back into the camera and have the camera try to repair it. Any suggestions, or is it completely lost? At this point we are mostly concerned with how to fix it (if possible), not why it happened. I've searched around the forum but get a little confused, so I'm sorry if the answer is out there, I couldn't find it.
THANKS!!!

I've heard of problems with DV Rack capturing to QuickTime files, if I recall there are crashes at around 2:30 or so. The problem is not related to FAT32 AFAIK, DV Rack will split files as needed if you are writing to a FAT32 volume.

By "Windows side of a Macbook Pro" he probably means having run the program under Bootcamp.

If this had happened to me, I'd try to open the file in question in Edius 4 Broadcast, which can open and edit QuickTime files containing DVCProHD video. If there is corruption at the end of the file, you could set in/out points and export the usable portion to a new file.

4Gig is not a very long take for concerts or interviews. Is DV Rack really that limited?

No it's not. It has nothing to do with FAT32 or a 4GB limit -- it's some interaction between DV Rack and QuickTime.

You can record long sessions on FAT32 volumes with DV Rack, and it will split up the capture file as needed. There is also no problem recording to AVI files that are much long than this, I've recorded for several hours to DVCProHD AVI files non-stop with no problems.

The thing to do is to contact Adobe/Serious Magic and find out what the status of this issue is.

There is such little information on this subject that I'm having to dig up a one year old post): I'm screwed if I can't fix this. I used DVrack to capture a very important interview on a fat32 drive...well at 3.99 gigs it froze up and didn't start a new file. somehow it corrupted the Quicktime file and I haven't found a cure. I did however find a half cure. There is a file repair utility called DVRecoverer that did manage to save the video, but the audio is very choppy...in constant increments too. Anyhow I would greatly appreciate any guidance. Please don't waste time. If you don't know anything then don't post. I'm not trying to be rude just efficient. Thanks so anyone who can help.
